During a special ceremony on Sunday, at the close of the BSA Centennial Parade in Washington, D.C., nearly 300 Scouts and Scouters were named as recipients of an honor bestowed upon a small contingent of Scouting’s finest living examples of Scouting service and virtue; induction into the National Hall of Leadership.
Nominations were accepted earlier this year during a nationwide campaign for consideration into the Hall of Leadership. More than 7,000 nominations were received; all of which are now a permanent record at the BSA 100th Anniversary archive at the National Scouting Museum. Inductees could be of any age or gender. The only requirement was that they had a profound impact on someone else. Also, only living individuals were eligible for nomination.
At Sunday’s ceremony, one inductee from each Scouting region was acknowledged and given the privilege of representing his or her geographic region and fellow inductees.
From over 110 nominations from across the five boroughs of New York city, the GNYC Hall of Leadership Committee selected twelve (12) individuals to the National Hall of Leadership.
Outstanding leaders are:
James Athanasatos
Jack Baer
Gordon Bennett
George Clark
Richard Cordes
Ralph DeFalco
John Farrell
Richard Gundacker
Francis Harty
Christopher Higgins
Alan Perl
David Risueno
The leader selected from New York City by the National Hall of Leadership committee was Alan Perl, Scoutmaster of Troop 138 in Queens, NY. On his years a leader, Alan have served as Cubmaster, Scoutmaster, Roundtable Commissioner, District Activity Chairman, and Philmont Leader. in doing so, Alan Perl has made a difference in many lives in our scouting family.
Congratulations to Mr. Perl and to all the others, thank you for your Service.

season. This month's Roundtable will be held on Tuesday, June 15th at
7pm at Holy Name Church, 245 Prospect Park West. This month's Roundtable
will feature the culinary stylings of Mr. JD Stark and Mr. Ashley
Crummey, who will teach us how to prepare aluminum foil cooking. Mr.
Crummey will then give us an in-depth look at knife and axe safety. Both
of these topics are especially relevant with the summer months coming

It is my pleasure to report that the Greater New York Councils Service Day, on Saturday April 24th, was an overwhelming success! Over 1000 Scouts and Scouters provided thousands of hours of community service in over 24 New York City Parks. They planted thousands of trees (part of NYC Million trees program), cleaned beaches, planted flowers and collected trash. The Scouts in the Bronx were actually thanked personally by the NYC Parks Commissioner Adrian Benape.
I want to thank all the staff members who rolled up their sleeves and lent a helping hand alongside our volunteers, especially Julio Garcia, the staff Advisor to our service day. If you missed it, check out our Face book page for some pictures of our scouts providing a good turn.
Thankfully,
Chris
