The saturday cleanup at Plum Beach was a HUGE success! Although our troop was under-represented (only four youth showed), many other troops came in full force! By the end of the day we must've cleared several hundred pounds worth of trash off of about a mile stretch of the beach! A BIG thanks to Tom H., Nick P., Ben K., Danny L., and the adults who came out; their selfless actions will not go unnoticed!!!

I found this with a quick search of google: http://urbanlegends.about.com/od/errata/a/juval_aviv.htm

Something all Americans really need to be aware of is spreading false information and to become responsible information consumers. This is perfect example of how we must be aware of where our information is coming from. In a time when we are bombarded with more and more info everyday, this it vital.

Here is a portion of article I linked to above:

Analysis: Given that it predicts terrorist attacks on "at least 5-8 cities" in the United States "within the next few months," probably the most important thing you need to know about this message is that it's at least two years old (with another variant dating back even further, to 2005), and has already proven itself false.

Regardless of the controversies surrounding Mr. Aviv himself, it goes without saying that one shouldn't rely on forwarded emails for critical advice on terrorist attacks and emergency preparedness. I recommend the Department of Homeland Security's Ready.gov instead.

That being said, here is a link to my Alma Mater's journalism website. If you have a chance, check out the video on the page. I've been told they are the first University in the country to create a class about this topic of News Literacy. The speaker is Howard Schneider, the Dean of Stony Brook's School of Journalism and the former editor of Newsday.

It has been brought to my attention that the authenticity of the information in this article is in question. The article, except for eggaterating a bit about predictions, does make some valid points. American citizens definately need to be more aware of their surroundings. We as a people tend to ignore potentially suspicious circumstances.
Despite the fact that some of the content in the article may be inaccurate, I still believe it to be a good, informative read and should definately raise a few eyebrows.
